I didn't buy the drive for burning or lightscribe functionality, the purchase was primarily for a pc based blu ray reader. Pros: Bought mine when it was on sale for $89.99 and for that price you cant go wrong.

If this is the case, installing the driver for the specific SATA controller in your system (in my case, an Intel ICH6, meaning Intel Matrix Storage Manager 7.0) resolves the issue! And if you're like me and need a driver from an older version of that software, it's possible to extract the necessary driver file (iaachi.inf) from the installation package by running it with the "-a" command line switch and, while the software is running, search the C:\Windows\Temp folder for the file.

On my system, it meant that I'd have to wait an hour between putting the Blu-Ray in the drive and watching the movie because PowerDVD would freeze, the drive become unresponsive, and the hard drive activity light would come on. Overall Review: On at least some older systems, Windows 7 installs a generic SATA controller driver which causes problems with Blu-Ray playback.

No need to pay for an expensive upgrade.Ĭons: Included software isn't technically Windows 7-compatible, but compatibility patches are available on the CyberLink website.ĭrive needs a firmware update to 2.00 before Windows 7 will recognize it, and the updater won't work in Windows 7, but it can be run from the Windows 7 Startup Repair environment. Included software outputs full 5.1 channel surround sound (can't do 7.1).
Then I was given 2 options for replacement - send me prepaid shipping labels via email or give them a credit card and they ship the replacement and await your return. The Rep then asked the normal questions about the drive and myself. We discussed what was wrong - and what I had done to test the drive (put it into another computer - same problem).
